Come Home! Come Home! Come Home!

We are calling on all descendants of St. John Colony, Texas to return to celebrate this historical event marking 150 years. Come home to celebrate the rich history of St. John Colony and the District Association from June 17 – 19, 2022.  Our Freedmen’s Colony was originally named Winn Colony in homage to Rev. John Henry Winn Sr. He was the leader of the Trailblazers who secured this land for purchase for 14 families while traveling to Waelder, Texas to minister.  John Winn was also instrumental in establishing the St. John Regular Baptist Church on 3 acres of this land, and marking off the other 10 acres, and establishing them as Emancipation Grounds.

We are inviting all to come celebrate with us and enjoy family and festivities on the grounds located at 110 Carter Road, Dale Texas in St. John Colony.

This year promises to be the greatest celebration yet.

June 17th, we will commence our activities at the Carver Vocational School beginning at 10:00 AM going until 5:00 PM.

June 18th culminates the celebration with our annual program!  We will start the program at 10:00 AM but of course you are welcome to come as early as you can to find a spot to enjoy faith, family, and fun.

June 19th is Emancipation Sunday we will rejoice and honor the one who got us here, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Hope to see you there!
